What is the KMM app?
The KMM Digital Guide is a free mobile app created by Kaunas City Museum to help visitors explore the museum’s exhibitions and discover the city in an interactive way. The app is available on smartphones in both Lithuanian and English.
Using the app, visitors can scan NFC tags located throughout the exhibitions and:
- listen to audio guides;
- read, watch, and explore extended content;
- listen to audio descriptions
- discover city routes;
- save favourite locations.
The app is designed to be accessible for visitors with different needs – users can enlarge text, adjust contrast settings, and use screen-reader compatible features.
What is an NFC tag?
Content in the app is accessed through NFC tags – special points located throughout the exhibition that can be activated simply by tapping them with your phone. Once scanned, the app opens additional information, audio stories, images, videos, or other related content.
Explore the exhibition: how does it work?
By enabling the “Explore the Exhibition” feature, visitors can scan NFC tags located throughout the exhibitions using their phone. This instantly unlocks additional content, including audio stories, images, translations, and specially adapted materials.

Where can I use the app?
The KMM Digital Guide is currently available in:
- exhibitions and displays at Kaunas Town Hall;
- the Mikas and Kipras Petrauskas House;
- the exhibition Estrada. The Price of a Dream at the Mikas and Kipras Petrauskas House;
- special city routes across Kaunas.
Don’t have a smartphone?
Visitors at Kaunas Town Hall and the Mikas and Kipras Petrauskas House can borrow museum devices equipped with the app and headphones.
Museum devices also provide a stable internet connection, which may be limited on personal devices in certain exhibition spaces (for example, in the basements of Kaunas Town Hall). Visitors who prefer using their own phones can connect to free Wi-Fi on site.
